Brothers and Sisters by Alistair Chong
I met an old man yesterday he was wise in a homeless kinda way
He'd never say about the pain he'd seen but pray and appreciate the shelter he's in
Because there's a girl he knows she hangs around more homeless bros
Who feel it when the rain falls and wind blows no roof or walls just some clothes
But she doesn't show she's meek cause it's been like this every week
And maybe if she's lucky it won't start raining, but she won't lift her hopes
Because she's known betraying, she's been bashed from her home
And through the bruises she's praying that someone will just show
Some mercy and drop a damn coin into her hand just so she can
Buy some booze so she'd just lose herself from the cuts and jars
Forget about her scars or maybe just buy some shoes
'Cause her feet are getting blue and winter's coming fast
But we just take it in
Walk through what we've seen
Turn away and keep on walking
When the city's starving
Most of the time she was smiling, I thought she'd be crying
But she said it ain't nothing compared to some kids she'd heard of
When she was better off before all this street stuff
They never seen dad or mum they ain't even got a street to sleep on
It's just dirt and sand, without food in their hands just bits of corn
They've seen their sister die and stayed for a week by her side
They don't know they've got it too, but they know they can't pull through
Because no one ever pulls up and sees they've gotta help the weak
Stop complaining and trying to seek for themselves and lift your head
See there's a kid without a bed or parents, without luck or someone to care for them
A kid who's never seen someone in his family survive past the age of five
Doesn't even think he'll be alive by the next July
But the world keeps on walking and averts its gaze, selfish and apathetic continues its day
In a week I'll hear that kid's dead, and no one will have heard of it
God, it's so pathetic, makes me sick to the head
But we just take it in
Walk through what we've seen
Turn away and keep on walking
When the world is starving
Lift your head and see past yourself
See past your job your cars, your bed your shelter
See past your house your clothes, your problems your woes
And give a kid some shoes give her some bread
Get him some help or soon they'll all be dead
You find disgust in them you misunderstand them
You try and forget them, you reprimand them
But to them you're the same, you make him sick
Make her disgusted, get them pissed
So take a harder look at these guys so lonely
They're your sister, brother, your homies
How much longer can you keep this up?
Walk through what we've seen
Turn away and keep on walking
When our brothers are starving
