rain rain

shallow waters by Alistair Chong

he's just a kid in the rain
the droplets masking his tears
diluting his pain
drawing from what appears
just a kid in the rain
his footsteps faltering
wants to slip away
from all that's called to him

you look on
in disdain and disgust
you look on
in hate and mistrust
but you don't know
the kid next to you is crying inside
you don't know
the kid next to you is trying to die

she's just a child beneath
her frustration and anger
trying to mask her grief
from those who pretend her
she's swimming downwards
she's lost her way alone
and if she doesn't find love's words
she's going to die soon

you look on
in disdain and disgust
you look on
in hate and mistrust
but you don't know
the kid next to you is crying inside
you don't know
the kid next to you is trying to die

look below
the surface of the ice
see the child
who's been lost in the fight
lift her eyes to your own
and love
love

you look on
in disdain and disgust
you look on
in hate and mistrust
but you don't know
the kid next to you is crying inside
you don't know
the kid next to you is trying to die
